PRACTICAL FILM PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

Objectives
Get to know in practice the handling of analog cameras in the studio, the gelatin silver printing and the processing of films from 24×36 to 4×5 inches depending on your choice.

Course content :
2 working methods :
The stop system (Pierre-Yves Mahé, Spéos ) and the zone system (Ansel Adams) and our humble experience.

THE FILM PHOTOGRAPHY PROCESSING
Choice of films: which film for which practice.
Equipment and chemistry films.
Film development and film storage.
Different recipes to make your own chemistry.
Density, contrast and grains.
The light table and the thread counter for observing films.

GELATIN SILVER PRINT
Equipment for the enlarger: focusing magnifiers, timer, enlarging easel, multigrade filters…
Choice of enlarger and objectives: Diffusion or condenser enlarger?
During the course we will use a condenser enlarger.
Chemistry and papers for printing and contacts.
Gelatine silver prints on baryta fiber based with filter mixtures for contrast adjustment.
Dodging and burning.
Retouching gelatine silver prints on baryta
Ferricyanide reduction.
Warm tones and cool tones.
We will consult the work of great printing technicians (books and videos).

THE FILM PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO
Theory and practice of black and white film photography.
Shooting equipment and devices and different shooting formats.
Lenses and different focals.
Choice of films.
Aperture, speed and sensitivity of films (ISO).
Use of tripods
Natural light and artificial light, continuous light and studio and cobra flashes, color temperature.
Contrast filters.
For the practical exercises of the course we will also work digitally because we no longer work with polaroids.

ANALYSIS AND COMMENTS ON IMAGES

Public:
Experience in the field of the photography is not required nor in the laboratory, although it is always a plus.
